It appears that Hollywood’s endless trawl for stories to adapt has finally reached biblical proportions. TwitchFilm report Relativity Media are currently in talks with The Rock to play Goliath in their adaptation of the bible story. Interestingly there seems to be only one other film of the David & Goliath tale, a 1960 Italian production with Orson Welles, so it’s a wonder why it took the execs this long to get their hands on it.
Relativity have hired Scott Derrickson (THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) to direct, from a script written by newcomers John D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Also, word on the street is that an offer has been made to Taylor Lautner (TWILIGHT) to star opposite as David, the future king of Israel. This is probably due to the involvement of TWILIGHT producers Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen.
This news does beg the question of who would win in an actual fight between the two. Lautner reportedly had a black belt in karate by the age of eight, but my money would still be on the people’s champ.
