Hannibal Lecter TV Series in Development

Everyone’s favourite cannibalistic serial killer, Hannibal Lecter, is breaking out onto television. HANNIBAL is a one-hour drama written and executive produced by PUSHING DAISIES creator Bryan Fuller. The show will reveal the early days of Lecter, focusing on his evolution into the serial killer portrayed by Anthony Hopkins in THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS. The storyline is expected to loosely follow the events of the novel Red Dragon which developed the backstories of Lecter and his FBI agent rival Will Graham.

HANNIBAL is one of a number of projects in development for upcoming television studio Gaumont Internation Television. A subsidiary of French studio Gaumont, the Los Angeles-based studio will be led by Katie O’Connell and Richard Frankie. O’Connell previously worked as executive VP of drama programming for NBC, with Frankie positioned as executive VP of business operations at Sony Pictures Television.

“As we looked to expand our global presence in television it became clear that the next logical step was to launch Gaumont International Television. As a leading independent studio we are looking to build a company that is nimble, global and creative in this ever changing television landscape,” commented Gaumont’s CEO, Sidonie Dumas, and vice CEO, Christophe Riandee. “With Katie and Richard’s background in the US television market, both from a creative and business perspective, and with Erik in London overseeing our distribution and co-production, and our French team, we feel we are well positioned to produce and offer top-quality entertainment that will succeed globally.”

MADAME TUSSAUD is another project to be produced by the studio. The six-hour mini-series will be written by THE TUDORS creator Michael Hirst.
