Top Gun for 3D Re-release

Homoerotic action favourite TOP GUN is joining the long list of classic films to be given a cinematic re-release in 3D.

The Tom Cruise movie is being converted by Legend3D, who unveiled a four-minute clip featuring the infamous ‘Danger Zone’ aerial flight sequence at the International Broadcasting Convention on Monday. Legend 3D CEO Rob Hummel introduced the footage, hinting at the potential to re-releases further films if all goes to plan.

“We think there is great potential for catalog titles in 3D, but studios have had trouble justifying the expense… I think TOP GUN lends itself to 3D due to the aerial flight. You can have fun with 3D by bringing things off the screen if they are not attached to the edge of the screen.”

There’s been no talk of converting that volleyball scene as yet, but we live in hope.

TOP GUN is just one of many films being given the 3D treatment. October 2011 sees the arrival of THE LION KING 3D here in the UK, followed by STAR WARS in early 2012 (don’t get too excited, it’s THE PHANTOM MENACE), and TITANIC 3D in mid-2012.
