Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who stars as Jamie Lannister on the HBO hit show GAME OF THRONES has been cast alongside Jessica Chastain in the Gullimermo Del Toro executive-produced supernatural horror movie MAMA. The two will play a couple who take in their long lost nieces and nephews after they have been found living in a forest for five years, until a supernatural force seems intent on claiming the children for itself.
MAMA will be Scandanavian Coster-Waldau’s first Hollywood leading role since he came to attention for his GAME OF THRONES work, having previously had supporting turns in KINGDOM OF HEAVEN and BLACK HAWK DOWN.
Chastain meanwhile seems to be everywhere at the moment, the recently released role in Terrence Malick’s THE TREE OF LIFE was the jump start that has since seen her cast in upcoming projects THE DEBT, CORIOLANUS, THE HELP and TEXAS KILLING FIELDS.
The Hollywood Reporter confirms Andres Muschietti is directing the feature for Universal Studios and is based on his 2008 Spanish-language short.
Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
