James Franco To Pen Next McCarthy Adaptation.

From giving absolutely stellar performances on screen to writing poetry and teaching at New York University, is there nothing James Franco can’t do? It seems not as the 127 HOURS star’s next project is to adapt Cormac McCarthy’s ‘Child Of God’ into a screenplay.

‘Child Of God’ is the author’s third book. His ninth, ‘No Country For Old Men’, was adapted in 2007 by Joel and Ethan Coen, and his tenth, ‘The Road’, in 2009 by Joe Penhall. The author’s sixth book, ‘All The Pretty Horses’ was also made into a film in 2000, but was not successful. Franco has expressed a lot of interest in McCarthy’s writing this year. A few months ago he directed a test shot of BLOOD MERIDIAN, an adaptation of the author’s fifth novel of the same name. Unfortunately for Franco the project fell apart.

‘Child Of God’ tells the story of Lester Ballard, who, after being left parentless and homeless, becomes a violent criminal as his life disintegrates. The novel’s main theme is that of sexual deviancy, focusing mainly on necrophilia and paedophilia. Most of McCarthy’s adaptations have had poor results at the box office, but NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN grossed $171 million during its time on the silver screen. Will Franco’s talent with words put CHILD OF GOD above that? We will have to wait and see!

While Franco is mainly known for his work on screen, he is venturing further into the realms of behind the camera. His directorial films THE BROKEN TOWER and SAL are set for 2011 releases and his untitled Kink.com documentary is filming now, for release in 2012.

Sam was once a Tesco employee who dreamed of making it big, so she got a job at an independent cinema in Walton and has since never looked back. Four years on she has become an avid, and somewhat aggressive, film buff. She has recently completed her degree in Professional and Creative Writing with Media Arts and hopes to, one day, be a screenwriter/director. Personally, Sam is short, sometimes boring to be around but mostly quite fun. She does, however, feel a little bit awkward when writing about herself in the third person. Sam enjoys playing with Spartacus (her cat), watching films, obviously, and the occasional Nando's.
