Avoiding the cliche, and not being a US rapper in any way, shape or form, I can indeed confirm that yes, I am a fan of the Al Pacino SCARFACE movie, and I would list it as being on of my favourite films of ‘all time.’ I love it. I was kind of expecting the news that Hollywood are to remake it, and indeed that news came via Deadline today. Brian De Palma and Oliver Stone 1980’s movie was in fact based on a 1929 novel, which was itself turned into a Howard Hawks film in 1932.
That film, much like De Palma’s version, revolved around the story of a gangster’s rise to power. The new version will be an updated version, but will be brought to the screen from Martin Bregman (who produced the 1983 version), and Marc Schmuger.
I actually am really excited by the new. The Pacino classic is untouchable in my eyes, but I would love to see what the producers have in mind with the new version. No director is attached as yet. Expect some music video director to take this one… Betcha.
