Paradise Lost is…Lost!

Alex Proyas’ attempt at bringing John Milton’s famous poem, PARADISE LOST, to the big-screen appears to have been shut-down. The poem told of the devastating war in heaven, between angels Michael and Lucifer, that eventually saw the latters wings clipped and banished to hell. The film was scheduled to begin shooting last month, but was delayed by Legendary Pictures after concerns about the rising budget.

The film had a impressive cast already in place with the likes of Bradley Cooper starring as Lucifer, and ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER’s Benjamin Walker as Michael. Casey Affleck, Camilla Belle, Dominic Purcell, Djimon Hounsou and Rufus Sewell were also set to star.

Apparently the cause of the shut-down is the heavy special-effects budget needed to realise the world of heaven on the big-screen, as well as the epic action-packed battle scenes. With so much money thrown, so far on the project, it could be possible the producers may attempt to restart production sometime in the future. Whether they can keep all the cast members in place remains to be seen; but for now, PARADISE LOST is dead.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
