Warner Bros. Announces Moses Movie

Moses makes a scene

Tablet carrier and freer of the Jews Moses will be getting the biopic treatment in an upcoming film by Warner Bros. GODS AND KINGS will cover the entirety of Moses’ life, from his ride down the River Nile to his death at the ripe old age of a hundred and twenty.

As if this bloated religious epic didn’t seem bloated and epic enough, the studio is apparently courting Steven Spielberg (THE COLOR PURPLE) to direct. Of course, Spielberg is a constantly busy individual, with a biopic of Abraham Lincoln planned after his already announced upcoming releases, but perhaps he’ll find the time for a film with such box office potential. The screenplay is by Stuart Hazeldine (no stranger to religious themes with his upcoming PARADISE LOST) and Michael Green (no stranger to river related projects with his upcoming TV series THE RIVER).

Moses has been portrayed several times before, most famously by Charlton Heston in THE TEN COMMANDMENTS. At the time, THE TEN COMMANDMENTS was an enormous box office hit, at with the likes of THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST setting precedent, GODS AND KINGS is likely to do big business for Warner Bros. Add in the possibility of the world’s biggest director at the helm, and Hollywood’s casting agents are likely to experience a plague of bearded and robed actors delivering commandments.
