Dreamwork’s upcoming SHREK spin-off has unveiled its final trailer, revealing much more plot and, thankfully this time around, no Pitbull. Originally conceived as a direct-to-DVD sequel back in 2004, PUSS IN BOOTS is to be given an IMAX 3D release in December. ‘Direct-to-DVD’ may not sound promising but TOY STORY 2 was also once intended for the same fate.
A prequel to SHREK, PUSS IN BOOTS sees the feline swashbuckler embark on a journey to steal the Goose that lays the Golden Eggs with friends — or if you prefer, amigos — Humpty Dumpty (Zack Galifianakis) and Kitty (Salma Hayek).
A few moments in the trailer do amuse, the visuals look stunning, and there’s a surprisingly lack of pop culture references (which Dreamworks tend to lay on thick). That said… A single ‘your mama’ joke is one too many. Perhaps certain elements of the script are stuck in ’04.
