New Bond Film Has Title (Maybe)

QUANTUM OF SOLACE was arguably one of the worst Bond titles in the series’ run. It was derided from the moment it was announced for being a tad pretentious, and not really fitting the usual James Bond title mould. Since then, the twenty third Bond film has been shrouded in mystery, with little details seeping out here and there. Now, though, it seems the film might finally have a title: ‘SKYFALL’.

Of course, there has been no official announcement; this is all just speculation. The main piece of evidence seems to be the fact that Sony has registered an awful lot of URLs containing the word ‘Skyfall’. So regardless of whether or not this is the actual title, it’s clearly important to the film. Daniel Craig (MUNICH) has childishly taunted the press with the fact that he knows the title but they don’t. Unless he’s telling fibs, therefore, the title has been settled on and could be the underwhelming-sounding “Skyfall”.

‘Skyfall’ doesn’t derive from any of Iam Fleming’s Bond novels, and as such would be the first entirely original Bond title since the terrible DIE ANOTHER DAY. If this is to be the title, then it’s fine; it lacks the intrigue and nostalgia factor of CASINO ROYALE but also sidesteps the head scratching and sneerability of QUANTUM OF SOLACE. Either way, we won’t have to wait long to find out, as the film is set for a 2012 release.
