Shame Teases With Debut Poster

Carey Mulligan, Michael Fassbender, sex addiction, full-front nudity. I’m already sold, but there’s more to be excited about. Premiering at the 68th Venice Film Festival last month, Fassbender was awarded a Volpi Cup for his performance in SHAME and positive reviews have been pouring in.

When his wayward sister Sissy arrives unannounced for an indefinite stay, sex addict Brandon’s life spirals out of control. Described as ‘gritty’ and ‘harrowing’, the film is an ‘examination of the nature of need’ featuring a number of graphic sex scenes that may not be for the faint of heart.

Fassbender has once again teamed up with director Steve McQueen for the feature. The two previously worked together on HUNGER which went on to win the Caméra d’Or at Cannes Film Festival, the Sydney Film Prize at the Sydney Film Festival and Best Picture at the Evening Standard British Film Awards. Naturally, the people at Fox Searchlight will be hoping for a similar result with SHAME, and Fassbender’s recent win has already garnered some Oscar buzz.

The teaser poster below manages to embody the dark tone despite showing very little. I like it. Released in the US at the end of the year, SHAME sees a theatrical release in the UK on Friday 13th of January 2012.
