James Cameron Teases Sigourney Weaver’s ‘Avatar’ Future

AVATAR creator James Cameron has confirmed Sigourney Weaver’s return to the sci-fi franchise despite her character being killed off in the 2010 original.

‘Have you ever heard of non-linear storytelling? A lot happens on that planet before she shows up, and before Jake shows up to join her. She’s there for fifteen years ahead of time. I don’t know, but I wouldn’t jump to conclusions,’ stated the filmmaker.

So Dr Grace Augustine could be seen in flashbacks, or possibly a prequel? Well this is science fiction — and James Cameron — so things may not be that simple.

‘Okay, here’s the deal. When you have a science-fiction series, a science-fiction franchise, you’re never dead, unless your DNA is expunged from the universe. And then there’s always time travel!’

A Sigourney clone? Evil twin? Time traveller? Obi-Wan Kenobi-esque ghost? Little is known about the upcoming AVATAR 2, and following sequel AVATAR 3, so anything is possible. I’m hoping for a ghost.

We have quite a wait to find out as AVATAR 2 reaches cinemas in December 2014.
