TOP GUN 2 is definitely happening according to various reports, and it seems the Jerry Bruckheimer production has now secured a writing team in Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz. The duo, codenamed Goose and Maverick (we’re assuming), are currently hot property after scribing THOR and X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, both of which were hits with critics, audiences, and (most importantly) the box office.
Christopher McQuarrie (USUAL SUSPECTS) was originally tipped to write, but Tony Scott will remain in the director’s hair. It is still unknown if Tom Cruise will return as Maverick, or if the film will focus on a younger generation of pilots. As far as THN is concerned, without Maverick surely TOP GUN 2 is just another film about jet fighters…? We’re confident the hotshot due of Miller and Stenz will do the movie justice.
