If, like so many of the fans of the HARRY POTTER series, you’d been hoping to wait for a price reduction before investing in the complete boxset on Blu-ray or DVD, you may have to rethink your strategy.
Warner Bros have announced plans to remove all copies of the films, from PHILOSOPHER’S STONE right through to DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II, from shelves as of December 29th, with no new orders accepted from stores.
This means that the final instalment of the saga, DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II, will only be released at retail for around six weeks, before being cast into (presumably) the ‘Warner Vaults’ – in a move reminiscent of Walt Disney Home Video, which placed its own films into the ‘Disney Vault’.
The somewhat radical move from Warner Bros may mystify the general consumer, who will find themselves having to turn to online marketplace sources in order to purchase the films.
No explanation has been given as to why Warner Bros have carried out this move, though one can presume the studio simply wishes to increase demand for the product, or else generate a rush for Christmas sales before the films disappear for good.
No plans have been announced to re-release the saga, though with the constant cashflow the series undoubtedly generates, it’s almost inevitable that they’ll come back at some point.
HARRY POTTER AND THE DEATHLY HALLOWS PART II is directed by David Yates and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. It will be released on DVD, Blu-ray and Blu-ray 3D on November 11th.
