Eddie Murphy Bids To Reunite With Fellow African-American Comedians

THN recently announced that Murphy intended to bring the 1980s classic, BEVERLY HILLS COP, to the small screen. It now appears that he has other works in the pipeline too; a story surrounding the alien abduction of a group of friends.

Murphy, who, after a golden era in the eighties seemed to be drifting aimlessly for a while, recently returned to the big time; starring opposite Ben Stiller in TOWER HEIST. The film’s original conception, however, involved an all African-American cast, but after much chopping and changing, as is customary in Hollywood, Murphy wound up starring alongside Stiller, Matthew Broderick and Casey Affleck.

The initial concept has obviously struck a chord with Murphy though, as he still has every intention to develop a film starring himself and other famous African-American comedians. When talking to ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine, he had this to say:

“I still want to do something like that”, he said, adding that he had Dave Chappelle, Chris Rock, Tracey Morgan and Martin Lawrence all lined up for that first incarnation of TOWER HEIST. “I have this idea called JAMAL AND TYRELL AND OMAR AND BRICK AND MICHAEL’S WACK-ASS WEEKEND. It’s about this group of guys who get abducted by aliens on the way to the fights. I’m writing that now.”

TOWER HEIST opens in UK cinemas on the second of November.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
