Buscemi’s Queer Adds Pearce, Foster And MacDonald To Its Cast

Guy Pearce, Ben Foster and Kelly MacDonald will be the vessels through which Steve Buscemi’s upcoming film (an adaptation of William S. Burrough’s novel, ‘Queer’) will be realised. Buscemi’s directorial prowess has perhaps been underappreciated at times due to his enthralling acting performances receiving such high praise, but his experience and ability cannot be denied. As well as several feature films, he has directed numerous episodes of the monumental HBO series’ ‘The Sopranos’ and ‘Oz’.

Oren Moverman, who penned the original script for QUEER a decade ago, described the crux of the narrative as follows:

‘It was really the story of William S. Burroughs kind of discovering himself as a writer by being obsessed with this boy. And there’s very little in it about the wife, but what’s happening at the same time is it’s the time where [Burroughs] killed his wife, you know, during the whole famous William Tell routine. So that’s sort of the incident that we started working with and built this whole movie around.”

When queried on specific details, Moverman did admit that it may be a while before audiences are afforded the pleasure of viewing the final piece. He put this down to scheduling conflicts and minor financial obstacles. However, he vehemently assured everyone that it will be made, if not, perhaps, for another year or two.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
