Rise Of Apes Sequel Swinging Into Production

After the overwhelming critical and commercial reponse to this year’s RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES, it was innevitable that a sequel would soon follow. In fact, Rupert Wyatt’s contract included an option for a sequel, so it comes as no surprise that the next Apes project is already in the works.

However, according to reports, leading motion-capture actor Andy Serkis has just signed a very lucrative deal to return as Ceaser, the intelliegent ape with a chimp on his shoulder (sorry). The deal is reportedly for a seven-figure sum, whch is merely loose change for Fox considering the $450 million gross RISE has taken so far.

Serkis has made a respectable name for himself by starring as a range of digital characters, all brought to life by motion capture technology. Having played Gollum in LORD OF THE RINGS, Kong in KING KONG, and more recently Captain Haddock in THE ADVENTURES OF TINTIN, Serkis is the go-to guy for these specialized characters.

There is no word on whether the film’s other leading man James Franco will return, though common sense dicatates that he will.
