X-Men: Second Class? Superhero Sequel Gets A Writer

This year’s obligatory X-MEN film was a much improved affair on previous outings; the prequel X-MEN: FIRST CLASS was ironically leaps and bounds ahead of the disappointing X-MEN: THE LAST STAND and X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE. It’s no surprise, then, that a sequel is in the works.

Details are scarce, but Simon Kinberg (MR & MRS SMITH, SHERLOCK HOLMES) has been reported as the writer. Kinberg previously had writing credits on the third instalment, THE LAST STAND – arguably the worst X-MEN film to date. However, after the stellar production that was X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, hopes for the sequel are still high.

There’s no word yet on whether Matthew Vaughn will return to direct, keeping it once more ‘in the family’ – Vaughn was a screenwriter for the first film, while Kinberg was a producer. There’s also no confirmation of cast members returning, but it’s safe to assume the principal protagonists/antagonists will be back – including the likes of James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and January Jones.
