Since leaving TWO AND A HALF MEN and becoming the tabloids’ number one subject, Charlie Sheen has received an awful, awful lot of press attention. His antics have been discussed and dissected, his sound bites have mutated annoyingly into catchphrases. What he hasn’t done a lot of is acting. However, back in September, it was announced that Sheen would star in the upcoming A GLIMPSE INSIDE THE MIND OF CHARLIE SWAN III, another role with parallels to his real life, and a continuation into the theory that Sheen has trouble responding to first names that aren’t his own. Oh, maybe not
The film is about a successful graphic designer whose life takes a destructive turn after a breakup. It’s written and directed by Roman Coppola, known not just for his surname but for his work with Wes Anderson, whose films could well set the tone for this project. Though Sheen has been under no end of scrutiny of late, he is a competent comedic actor, and with Bill Murray in tow, hopefully this will be more than capitalisation on the personal life of a pretty troubled guy.
