Fassbender To Play Litvinenko?

Michael Fassbender is so hot right now. Equally at home in blockbusters and hard hitting indie flicks, he can seemingly do no wrong. And now Warner Bros are eyeing him to play Alexander Litvinenko, the ex-KGB spy who was poisoned in 2006.

LONDONGRAD, written by David Scarpa (THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL) will tell the difficult tale of Litvinenko’s apparent murder, for which he blamed then Russian president Vladimir Putin. The case was never solved and became very high profile, with the image of Litvinenko lying in his hospital bed, bald from radiation poisoning, making front pages the world over.

WB are in talks with director Rupert Wyatt (RISE OF THE PLANET OF THE APES) to helm the project. This would be the second time Fassbender has played a real life character who died a very public, politically motivated death, the first being Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen’s HUNGER.

Fassbender’s latest collaboration with McQueen, SHAME, is released on January 13th.
