Eddie Murphy Steps Down From Oscars Host Role

Speculation has been rife about whether Eddie Murphy would resign as Oscar host following Brett Ratner’s departure and we can now confirm this is true.

The duo were set to feature in the 84th Academy Awards however Ratner was asked to resign as producer after making an offensive comment. As he was the one who brought Murphy on board, this raised big question marks about whether he would follow Ratner’s footsteps.

And Murphy has done just that: “”I was truly looking forward to being a part of the show that our production team and writers were just starting to develop,” said Murphy. “But I’m sure that the new production team and host will do an equally great job.

The academy President Tom Sherak responded, stating: “I appreciate how Eddie feels about losing his creative partner, Brett Ratner, and we all wish him well.”

No replacements have been announced. But during a recent interview for HAPPY FEET 2, Robin Williams was asked whether he would be interested in hosting the event again. “Never. Oh, no. I’ve done that gig,” he said, adding that Billy Crystal may consider taking the job. We also have reason to believe that The Muppets may take over as the new hosts- watch this space.
