Five actors have been added to Tarantino’s already packed cast list for DJANGO UNCHAINED, including BORAT creator Sacha Baron Cohen. Joining the star is DEXTER’s James Remar, THE DUKES OF HAZZARD’s Tom Wopat, DONNIE BRASCO’s James Russo, and THE APOSTLE’s Todd Allen.
Remar and Russo will portray brothers who purchase the titular Django, played by Jamie Foxx, at the Greenville Slave Auction. Remar is perhaps best known as father and beyond-the-grave-role-model Harry Morgan in television series DEXTER (and a small role in the terrible THE UNBORN). Russo has most recently appeared in Mexican thriller MISS BALA which was released in late October.
Todd Allen — who co-starred with Remar in 48 HRS — will play plantation overseer Dollar Bill. Allen is the founder of Presidio Pictures and worked with Tarantino 25 years ago… in an acting class.
Wopat will appear as Marshall Gill Tatum. Having recently starred in JONAH HEX, the actor is best known for his character Duke Luke in CBS television series THE DUKES OF HAZZARD.
ALI G and BRUNO actor Sacha Baron Cohen is the most recent, and possibly last, addition to the cast. Cohen has been chosen to play the ‘small but significant’ role of Scott Harmony. Written as the ‘overweight and shy 24 year old son of rich daddy who buys him the slave Broomhilda in a bid to cure his confidence issues’, the role will no doubt be re-written to better suit the 40 year old. The character’s screentime is minimal but is said to be involved in a memorable scene involving Leo DiCaprio’s Calvin Candie and a card game).
DJANGO UNCHAINED follows a freed slave (Jamie Foxx) who is trained by bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) to save his wife (Kerry Washington) from an evil plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). Sameul L. Jackson, Kurt Russell and Joseph Gordon-Levitt also star.
The film is directed by Quentin Tarantino and is expected to start shooting in January. DJANGO UNCHAINED will reach cinemas in December 2012.
