Powerful New Trailer for Luc Besson’s The Lady

The new trailer for THE LADY has been released and looks like seriously powerful and poignant stuff. The film is set to portray the life of Aung San Suu Kyi (Michelle Yoeh) who spent almost 15 years under house arrest in Burma. It focuses on the love between Suu Kyi and her husband Michael Aris (David Thewlis) but also her choices to either fight for democracy in her country or return to England to nurse her husband, who was dying of cancer.

THE LADY is written by Rebecca Frayn and is her first major screenplay. Frayn heavily researched this real life story with Suu Kyi’s family and friends and this looks like an epic tale full of emotion and heartbreaking decisions encased within a world of political turmoil.

It’s directed by Luc Besson (LEON, LA FEMMA NIKITA) and is due for a December 30th release in the UK:
