Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Top Ten Sexiest Vampires

In honour of the release of BREAKING DAWN, the penultimate movie in the Twilight Saga, and its bevy of beautiful creatures  we thought we’d give you a rundown of our top 10 sexiest vampires in film. Enjoy!

10.Gary Oldman, DRACULA (1992), Francis Ford Coppola

Based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel, this is the tale of Dracula, a sexual predator/blood drinker who is unleashed into Victorian Society after an encounter with Jonathan Harker (Keanu Reeves) at his gothic castle in Transylvania. In this film his antics are inspired by a photo of Harker’s fiancé Mina Murray (Winona Ryder). While this adaptation is a little farcical and over acted (see Mina being sexually assaulted by a large bat), the costumes are fabulous and Oldman cuts a fine figure of a man in his Victorian garb. We love his transformation from old grey creature who looks like he has breasts on his head to Victorian babe after drinking blood of innocent ladies.

9.Catherine Deneuve, THE HUNGER, (1983), Tony Scott

Lady Miriam (Deneuve) exists on the blood of her lovers who in return are granted eternal youth… Until she wants someone new. This is the case with the vampire John (David Bowie) who enlists the help of Dr Sarah Roberts (Sigourney Weaver) who subsequently becomes the next object of her desire. The sexual tension between the two is entrancing and Deneuve is stunning as the vampiric madame. Definitely worth a watch. Also notable is the opening scene where Bauhaus sing ‘Bela Lugosi’s dead’ in a charged gothic club.

8.Bela Lugosi , DRACULA (1931), Tod Browning

Another  Dracula story. Bela is the actor most associated with the vampire character. He played this character or variations on it over 4 times. We love the seductive sway he holds over the Mina Murray ‘sand Lucy Westernra’s of the films. Sadly due to his vampiric fame he got typecast and was unable to break away successfully from the horror genre. Towards the end of his life and down on his luck he was found by director Ed Wood who enlisted him in his horror movie creations.

7.Angel, BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER (1997-2003), creator Joss Whedon

The bloodthirsty vampire formerly known as Angelus, eternally damned with the curse of a soul. In season one the delectable brooding stalker of Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) set our pulses racing, the revelation that he had a soul providing the perfect balance of naughty and nice. The only way for him to lose his conscience was a moment of perfect happiness found in the carnal embraces of the slayer… Angel (David Boreanz)a standout character from Buffy had his own spin off series post which also well worth a watch.

6. The Vampire Lestat, INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE (1994), Neil Jordan

An adaptation of Anne Rice’s cult novel with the same. The vampire Louis (Brad Pitt), a plantation owner, has lost his wife in childbirth as well as the will to live. Sadistic vampire Lestat (Tom Cruise) takes him under his debauched wing and teaches him the ways of the vampire and they terrorise mortals through the centuries. An all star cast full of babes, Christian Slater is the reporter Louis tells his story to in the present, Kirsten Dunst plays the beautiful doll like immortal child. It was a tough call between Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt but Cruise wins by a nose on account of the element of danger in his character.

5. Satanico Pandemonium, FROM DUSK TILL DAWN (1996), Robert Rodriguez

A typically madcap plot from Tarantino and Rodriguez.  Seth and Richard Gecko are on the run after a bloody bank robbery and cross the border to Mexico. They’ll be okay if they survive ‘from dusk till dawn’ in a strip joint populated by the undead. Salma Hayek is the bloodthirsty babe at the center of it. This does not disappoint.

4.Blade, BLADE (1998), Stephen Norrington

A woman bitten by a vampire dies in childbirth and gives birth to Blade (Wesley Snipes): a half human vampire who has vampiric strength and is able to walk in the sun. Blade becomes a vampire hunter who aims to rid the earth of vampires. Vampire maverick Deacon Frost has a plan to rid the world of humans for good and it’s up to Blade to stop him. Blade’s is a beautiful muscle bound machine, protecting the human race instead of destroying them. Enough said.

3. Kiefer Sutherland, LOST BOYS (1987), Joel Schumacher

Classic 80s awesomeness. A family moves to a new town plagued by mysterious deaths. His younger brother befriends a couple of geeks who claim to be vampire hunters while the elder brother falls in with a biker gang led by the peroxide blonde Kiefer Sutherland. The elder brother starts becoming moody and despondent and sleeping in the day… He is turning and so begins a quest to kill the vampire leader and stop the transformation, save the town. Sutherland’s iconic goth look has become associated with the stylised vampire and  inspired the aesthetic of Spike (James Masters )years later as well as countless East London hipsters.

2. Selene, UNDERWORLD (2003), Len Wiseman

A war is a raging between the vampires and werewolves (Lycans). Selene (Kate Beckinsale) is a death dealer whose mission is to wipe out the last of the werewolves. That is until she meets and falls in love with Michael a newly turned wolf who may hold the key to ending the war. Kate Beckinsale running around in a skin tight leather cat-suit and wielding heavy machinery. Any man’s wet dream.

1. Aleksandar Skarsgard, TRUE BLOOD (2008-present), Alan Ball

Out of a stunning cast of vampires and other mystical creatures hot star Aleksandar Skarskgard or nefarious vampire club owner and sheriff Eric in the show wins. Initially an amoral antipathetic force ( a wealthy man who has had his pick of beautiful people for centuries- wouldn’t you hate him?), he has been gifted a bit more humanity as the seasons have unfolded. We are shown this former Viking has a tender true love and undying loyalty for his maker as well as telepathic barmaid Sookie Stackhouse (Anna Paquin). In the latest season he becomes her charge after losing his memory and she(the girl we all want to be) becomes stuck in a love triangle between Eric and former love Bill (culminating in some very interesting ménage a trios dreams). Currently lending his beautiful Swedish face to Lars Von Trier’s MELANCHOLIA (2011), Skarsgard is most definitely the undead man of the moment.
