Possible BioShock Adaptation In The Pipeline

Although talk of adapting the game ‘BioShock’ has waned over the years, its creator and head of Irrational Games, Ken Levine, recently spoke about the matter in an interview with IndustryGamers. The verdict: Not only does the flame still seem to be burning, but Levine has pinpointed where many other movie adaptations of games have failed, and is determined to avoid history repeating itself.

A plethora of game adaptations have been speedily churned out over the years, with little thought or care given to the projects, or their faithfulness to the source material; RESIDENT EVIL, MAX PAYNE, and HITMAN are just a few examples that spring to mind. However, luckily for fans of BioShock, Levine and his team appear to have integrity and, refreshingly, are turned off by the concept of financial gain and urgency being the primary objectives.

He stated: ‘There’s no burning [desire] to have a movie made just to get it made. For us and for Take-Two, it’s really got to be something that will a) give the fans something that they want, and b) for those who don’t know BioShock, really introduce them to something that is consistent with the game, and is going to be a good representation of the game.’

He went on, ‘There are differences between games and movies, no doubt, but the movie has to draw from the same DNA in terms of the world and the story beats.’

BioShock Infinite – the third instalment of the game franchise – will be available on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC in 2012.
