Fincher To Direct Angelina Jolie In Cleopatra?

THE SOCIAL NETWORK director David Fincher may have found his next project in CLEOPATRA, a drama focusing on the Egyptian Pharaoh’s rise to power. To be adapted from Stacy Schiff’s bestselling book Cleopatra: A Life by ALI and BENJAMIN BUTTON writer Eric Roth, the film will tell Cleopatra’s story from ‘a woman’s perspective, depicting her as a master strategist in politics and war.’ Angelina Jolie has been long attached to star as the tragic Queen.

The project, which has still to be confirmed by Sony, was originally to be lead by AVATAR director James Cameron who had hoped to shoot the feature in 3D. Recent news now suggests that David Fincher will head CLEOPATRA following completion of action adventure 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA.

Roth will likely start work on the script in the coming weeks alongside producer Scott Rudin. The pair recently worked alongside Fincher on THE CURIOUS CASE OF BENJAMIN BUTTON back in 2008.
