Tomb Raider Reboot Will Focus On Lara Croft’s Origin

While marketing his new collaboration with Martin Scorcese’s HUGO, producer Graham King has given a few snippets of what we can expect on his upcoming TOMB RAIDER reboot project. The previous entries featured Angelina Jolie as the globe-hopping, ass-kicking archaeologist Lara Croft in two tepid and disappointing big-budget blockbusters, but King has stated:-

Listen, the box office, they weren’t disasters but I find it interesting that the story that we’re telling is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece. It does have a lot of really great characters, but it’s a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it’s something very different. I’ve not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we’re going to give it a shot.

No director or cast has been confirmed for this new attempt at transferring the video-game heroine’s adventures to the big-screen, but IRON MAN scribes Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby have penned the screenplay.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
