Scarlett Johansson On Black Widow And Captain America’s Relationship

Scarlett Johansson in her role as Black Widow

Scarlett Johansson, who has portrayed Natasha Romanoff a.k.a. Black Widow in IRON MAN 2, AVENGERS ASSEMBLE and the upcoming CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER, has been chatting to Coming Soon about the relationship between her character and Steve Rogers.

Judging from AVENGERS ASSEMBLE it’s fair to say that Black widow and Steve Rogers a.k.a. Captain America have an interesting screen chemistry. Previously Johansson has said that the two will have ‘something of an intimate friendship’. This seems obvious when thinking about it given that Black Widow and Captain America are both agents of Shield and do not possess any special powers unlike fellow Avengers, Iron Man, Hulk and Thor.

Here’s the interview from Coming Soon:

ComingSoon.net: You said earlier this summer that in “Cap 2” your relationship with Steve Rogers gets more intense. I actually went back and watched “The Avengers” again and noticed these little glances that you and Chris give each other. It’s so subtle, not something you would think about unless you knew something was brewing. Was that something that Joss had built in?

Scarlett Johansson: No, actually. Of course in “Avengers” particularly you start to see the relationships forming between these characters, and all of us have very specific relationships with one another. Of course we all know how we feel about one another. We work and all use each other in different ways. We all have very specific opinions about one another. I think that Joss laid the groundwork for a lot of interesting connections. That’s why the audiences are so intrigued by that film because they love to see how these characters react to each other that come from completely different universes.

CS: It makes sense, because his character and your character are sort of the most grounded of the superheroes.

Johansson: It does make sense. The pairing is strange on paper, but you’ll understand the pairing when you see “Cap 2” and of course Marvel’s really good at noticing those connections too! They will continue to build on the different relationships that audiences connect to.

It will definitely be interesting to see their relationship develops in next years film and continuing into THE AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON. The only thing that remains now is poor Hawkeye, how will Jeremy Renner’s Clint Barton react to all of this given the clear history him and Romanoff share?.

CAPTAIN AMERICA: THE WINTER SOLDIER stars Chris Evans, Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Samuel L. Jackson and Anthony Mackie. The film will be released in theatres 4th April 2014, we’ll update you with any additional developments.

Captain America does “not possess any special powers”?! Where the hell did you get that notion? In case you haven’t seen the first movie, let me remind you he’s a supersoldier, which means he has enhanced strength, stamina, speed and reflexes. Don’t you remember he was just a puny ill shrimp before undergoing the supersoldier program? Hawkeye is a much more regular human than Cap, since he’s just an excellent archer with cool toys.
