Adam Shankman To Adapt The Nutcracker

Director Adam Shankman has struck a deal with New Line Cinema to direct the festive fairytale THE NUTCRACKER, which will be new take on the classic story.

The script has been written by Darren Lemke, who most recently wrote the screenplay for Bryan Singer’s next feature JACK THE GIANT KILLER as well as the upcoming animated ‘worlds fastest snail’ film TURBO.

Shankman, who has previously directed all-star comedy musicals HAIRSPRAY and the soon-to-be-released ROCK OF AGES, will adapt the story from the original 1815 source materiel by E.T.A. Hoffman. THE NUTCRACKER tells the adventure of a young girl whose wooden toy magically comes to life.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
