Hollywood isn’t messing around with remakes these days. Following news last week that the relatively recent STARSHIP TROOPERS (1997) is set to be remade, apparently Lionsgate are set to remake AMERICAN PSYCHO.
The studio has reportedly hired Noble Jones (who acted as second-unit director on THE SOCIAL NETWORK) to rework the Brett Easton Ellis source material into a new adaptation.
The previous film was directed by Mary Harron and starred Christian Bale who turned it perhaps a career-best performance. Although the movie does depart somewhat from the book, THN considers it a damn fine film, and an inventive take on the original story.
‘American Psycho’ follows Patrick Bateman, a 1980s uber-yuppie who explores the far reaches of depravity and sadomasochism, embarking on a murderous rampage. The book is sharp and disturbing satire and should make for (another) interesting movie.
