Top Gun 2: Cruise States ‘We’re Working On It’

The movie that made Tom Cruise the superstar he is today, TOP GUN, has recently been talked up for a potential sequel. Both powerhouse producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott have expressed a desire to once again take to the skies. Cruise, in an interview with MTV while promoting MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL, has finally spoken on where he stands and whether his current writer/director on ONE SHOT will still be involved:-

I don’t think Chris [McQuarrie] is going to write it, Chris is directing ‘One Shot’ right now, which I’m acting. We’ve got to go back in January and finish it.

I said to Tony I want to make another movie with him. He and I haven’t made a film since ‘Days of Thunder,’ Tony and I and Jerry, we never thought that we would do it again. Then they started to come to us with these ideas of where it is now. I thought, ‘Wow, that would be … what we could do now.’

I hope we can figure this out to go do it again, If we can find a story that we all want to do, we all want to make a film that is in the same kind of tone as the other one and shoot it in the same way as we shot ‘Top Gun’

If Cruise comes back for more pilot duty as Maverick, surely they can pick Val Kilmer’s Iceman out of his current straight-to-DVD obscurity. After all Tony Scott has worked on TRUE ROMANCE and DEJA VU with notoriously difficult actor, so no more features with 50 Cent please Val, you’re better than that!.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
