Alexandre Aja To Helm ‘Horns’

French filmmaker Alexandre Aja blew me away with his breakout horror hit SWITCHBLADE ROMANCE (aka HAUTE TENSION/HIGH TENSION). The shock ending didn’t sit well with many people but I lapped it up. His unrelenting and unforgiving remake of Wes Craven’s THE HILLS HAVE EYES was equally extreme and exciting. MIRRORS was damp squib in comparison but did have a few unsettling effective moments, while PIRANHA 3D was a dumb-but-fun blast. Which brings us to today’s news that Aja is set to direct an adaptation of Joe Hill’s HORNS.

The novels plot centres on mid-twenties man named Ignatius Perrish who begins to sprout horns that he believes has connections to the unsolved murder of his girlfriend Merrin Williams. Scott Bunin has penned the script for Mandalay Pictures.

Author Joe Hill is the son of legendary horror scribe Stephen King. He also has an adaptation of his short story, TWITTERING ON THE CIRCUS OF DEATH slated for the big-screen.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
