American Film Institute Announces Their Finest For 2011

The American Film Institute have announced their ten best films of the year which feature some fantastic features but surprisingly have left out some superb efforts that I myself would have expected to have been included. I can not comment on a few of these films as some of them have yet to be released in the UK but staggeringly there is no place for DRIVE, TINKER TAILOR SOLDIER SPY and WE NEED TO TALK ABOUT KEVIN.

The list consists of the following:

BRIDESMAIDS

THE DECENDANTS

THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO

THE HELP

HUGO

J. EDGAR

MIDNIGHT IN PARIS

MONEYBALL

THE TREE OF LIFE

WAR HORSE

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
