Dragon Tattoo Sequel Still Happening

Despite talks of the disappointing performance of THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO, its sequel THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE is still underway.

A Sony representative told Entertainment Weekly, ‘THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATOO continues to do strong business and nothing has changed with respect to development of the next book.’ Despite having grossed $60 million in the US since its release on the 20th December last year, it has been perceived as a box-office disappointment.

There has been much speculation around the making of the sequel, but Sony states that development continues and Steven Zaillian continues to work on the script. According to Sony Pictures co-chairman Amy Pascal, no director has yet been established for the film, however its stars Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig are already signed up.

Audiences, on the other hand, have been happy with the film, receiving an A from audience-survey firm CinemaScore. So despite box-office battles, the future of the trilogy seems bright. As star Mara told Entertainment Weekly last month, ‘I don’t feel finished with the character [Lisbeth]. I’m not ready to go back there yet, but I think by the time we start, I will be.’
