Disney Confirms Director For Maleficent

Disney recently announced plans for a live-action feature film with a new take on the classic tale of SLEEPING BEAUTY. Scripted by Linda Woolverton, MALEFICENT is expected to star Angelina Jolie as the iconic villain of the story but a director, until now was unknown. Academy Award-winning production and visual effects  designer Robert Stromberg will make his directorial début with the film that is set for release in summer 2013.

Stromberg has won Oscars for his work on Tim Burton’s ALICE IN WONDERLAND and James Cameron’s record-breaking sci-fi epic AVATAR. He  also received a nomination for Peter Weir’s Russell Crowe starrer MASTER AND COMMANDER: THE FAR SIDE OF THE WORLD.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
