There’s ‘A Discovery Of Witches’ Over At Warner Bros

Deborah Harkness’ fantasy horror novel ‘A Discovery Of Witches’ was acquired by Warner Bros last summer. Now we have discovered that Pulitzer Prize-winning author David Auburn will adapt the novel for the big-screen, with the studio hoping for TWILIGHT-sized success. The novel, (the first of a planned trilogy) was only published last year but Warners are obviously impressed and will expect big things from the material’s transfer to the big-screen.

‘A Discovery of Witches’ tells the supernatural tale of a modern-day witch. Being a descendant of the first witch executed in the infamous Salem trials, the central chacater inadvertently unleashes all manor of evil when unlocking an ancient manuscript’s curse.

With no director or cast yet in place, those are surely to be up for contention soon enough following Auburn’s now confirmed involvement on the screenplay.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
