The Lord Of The Rings Gets The LEGO Treatment

First, it was STAR WARS. Then, it was HARRY POTTER. Then followed SPIDER-MAN, BATMAN and INDIANA JONES. Now LEGO are continuing their lucrative licensing deals with possibly the biggest franchise not yet bricked down – J.R.R. Tolkien’s THE LORD OF THE RINGS and THE HOBBIT.

The deal coincides with the upcoming release of THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, which is slated for release on 14th December 2012. The first wave of LEGO sets will focus on THE LORD OF THE RINGS and hit summer 2012, while products based on THE HOBBIT will be released later in the year.

For now, though, we have two fantastic teaser posters, depicting Aragorn and Frodo in all their LEGO-y goodness. It’s likely we’ll see posters of the entire fellowship in due course, but only time will tell.

Most of the big modern film franchises have been turned into LEGO sets by now. Heck, most have even been turned into LEGO videogames. Is there anything left? Well, maybe James Bond…

THE HOBBIT: AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY is released 14th December 2012 and stars Martin Freeman, Ian McKellen and Andy Serkis.
