Joss Whedon Talks The Avengers

The only blockbuster coming close to the anticipation levels of THE DARK KNIGHT RISES is Joss Whedon’s superhero smash-up THE AVENGERS. The film released 27th April, sees the formation of Nick Fury’s (Samuel L. Jackson) S.H.E.I.L.D. dream team of Captain America, Thor, Hulk and Iron Man. Giving a helping hand saving the world from Thor’s villainous brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston), will be Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow, Jeremy Renner’s Hawkeye and everyone’s favourite suit, Agent Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg).

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Whedon has given a few hints at what we can expect in terms of storyline and with so many egos, who will the movie focus on, in the main.

I set out with a very simple problem: There is no reason for these people to be in the same movie. So that’s what my movie has to be about. So much of the movie takes place from Steve Rogers’ perspective, since he’s the guy who just woke up and sees this weird ass world. Everyone else has been living in it.

Returning from their stand-alone superhero features will be Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Robert Downey Jr. Taking over as Bruce Banner’s Hulk is Mark Ruffalo.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
