The Razzie Awards Moved To April Fools’ Day

Every misanthrope’s favourite awards ceremony, the Razzies (aka The Golden Raspberry Awards), has officially been moved to the rather fitting date of April 1st by its organisers. The ceremony, which has been described as a spoof of the Academy Awards ceremony, honours the year’s worst films, and has been doing so since 1981.

A spokesperson for the Razzies had this to say about the change in schedule: ‘In addition to allowing the Razzies’ more than 600 voting members additional time to see the drek they will eventually nominate, this new schedule will also allow for more input from the movie-going public before the contenders are determined.’

These voting members, who named M. Night Shyamalan’s, THE LAST AIRBENDER the “Worst Picture” at last year’s event, will announce their nominees on February 25th; the day before the Academy Awards ceremony. They consist of regular moviegoers, film professionals and entertainment journalists.

Martin has been a film buff (or geek, if you prefer) for as long as he can remember. However, he lives and longs for storytelling of all kinds, and writes across numerous mediums to feed his insatiable appetite. He lives in north-west London, and his favourite films are, possibly: PAN'S LABYRINTH, THEY LIVE, PSYCHO, HIGH FIDELITY, ONE FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, STAND BY ME, SIDEWAYS and OFFICE SPACE.
