Warner Bros Switch Around Release Dates For Fantasy Films

It comes as a major surprise that Warner Bros has taken Bryan Singer’s big-budget fantasy epic JACK THE GIANT KILLER off the 2012 slate altogether. Perhaps frightened off by expected box-office behemoths THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, THE AVENGERS and BATTLESHIP, the film was originally scheduled for 15th June 2012. Now we will get to see the Nicolas Hoult-starring feature on the 22nd March 2013 – a full 9 months later than expected.

More worrying news for the studio is that their new King Arthur legend-set adventure film ARTHUR AND LANCELOT is having major problems. The film, directed by David Dobkin and starring THE DARKEST HOUR’s Joel Kinnaman and GAME OF THRONES’ Kit Harington, has seen its budget rise significantly from $100 million to $130 million. This has prompted Warner Bros to pause work on the film and demand a number of cuts to the project. This could have serious repercussions as both Kinnaman and Harington have television contracts for acclaimed series THE KILLING and GAME OF THRONES, set to begin filming in the coming months.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
