It’s no secret that THE HANGOVER franchise has left us in tears with the inebriated first account perspective of the stag party. Gross sales for the first film reached $467 million internationally and with THE HANGOVER PART II grossing $581 million there’s no wonder Warner Brothers is antsy to pour fans another shot from the comedy bottle.
However, despite the eager proposal, obstacles arose within the steadfast comedy trio of Bradley Cooper, Zach Galifianakis and Ed Helms. The reprisal of their roles was met with a demand of increased salary for the three stars, which after months of debate that stemmed from 2010 before filming the first sequel, has boiled down to the possible third installment of THE HANGOVER costing Warner Brothers $45 Million or three times what it did in the previous film to secure the trio.
This substantial sum is not without risk, as the third movie will be stepping away from its traditional format, exchanging the ‘vacation’ feel of an exotic location and gross self-indulgence of previous films for what is expected to be a much tamer Phil, Stu and Alan in Los Angeles. Expectations for a sequel are always high after a successful predecessor, and while the new format may breed scepticism, let us hope the pay raise will ensure that the comedic trifecta will not shirk on the quality we’ve come to expect from them.
