Ridley Scott and Cormac McCarthy are two extremely special talents and the rumours tables are turning as McCarthy’s first direct script to film, THE COUNSELOR, is possibly being set up for Scott to direct. However, it’s reported that Ridley is still considering various projects including Jeffrey Caine’s (THE CONSTANT GARDENER) historical epic about Gertrude Bell and Summit Entertainment’s CHILD 44 at this present time.
McCarthy always creates dark characters where the boundaries of morals are tested and previously, his novels THE ROAD, NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN and ALL THE PRETTY HORSES have been turned into highly successful films and we’d be eager to see these two team up.
THE COUNSELOR is primarily about a powerful lawyer who gets involved with the drug industry but, as expected, things being to go very wrong. It’s set in contemporary south-west America, in a masculine world where two woman, unusually, begin to take leading roles. Producer Steve Schwartz had this to say about the exciting and intoxicating script: “Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. McCarthy’s wit and humour in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of Cormac’s most disturbing and powerful works.”
Disturbing, powerful, a developing nightmare for the human soul? Sounds outstanding, we wait at THN with utter intrigue…
