Supernatural love story, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES, now appears to have cast the lead actors in what is hoped will be another TWILIGHT-esque franchise starter. The film is based on the novel by Kami Carcia and Margaret Stohl. British actor Jack O’Connell, who has featured in the likes of THIS IS ENGLAND, EDEN LAKE and HARRY BROWN, will headline as Ethan Wate. The character of Lena Duchannes (the female love-interest), will be played by Alice Englert (daughter of Oscar-winning director Jane Campion). THE HELP’s Academy Award-nominee Viola Davis is also expected to join the cast after negotiations began with her, last week.
There are a total of three novels in the series dubbed ‘The Caster Chronicles’, BEAUTIFUL CREATURES being the first, was soon followed by BEAUTIFUL DARKNESS and BEAUTIFUL CHAOS. The plot explores the relationship between a local boy and female newcomer that soon turns sinister when they uncover secrets about each other, their families and the town that they call home. Shooting is expected to begin in April for a release sometime next year.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
