Crowe In Early Talks For Dracula Re-Imagining ‘Harker’

GLADIATOR’s Oscar-winning actor Russell Crowe is apparently in talks to headline a Dracula story taken from the the viewpoint of Jonathan Harker. In the original story, Harker was husband to Mina, the focus of the bloodsucking Count’s obsession. In an effort to breath new life into Bram Stoker’s iconic vampire tale (one that has been adapted countless times), HARKER will see the character changed from a lawyer to that of detective, investigating the grisly crimes and hunting the vicious vamp.

The project had been gathering steam over at Warner Bros with UNKNOWN’s Jaume Collet-Serra set to direct. The project was then put on the back-burner when the studio decided to put Serra in charge of their live-action AKIRA remake. Now with AKIRA postponed, HARKER is looking favourite to be the directors next feature.

HARKER is not the only Dracula project currently in development. THE LAST VOYAGE OF DEMETER will focus on the ill-fated ship that carried the Count in his coffin and served as feeding source for his visit to England; that once arrived at its port in Whitby, showed no survivors on board. David Slade is slated to direct with Noomi Rapace, Jude Law and Ben Kingsley signed on to star.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.

To clarify: Crowe will play Dracula. Crikey, mate, he doesn’t really fit the role does he?
