Another Hitchcock Remake In The Works

Veena Sud, who has been asked to rework script for Suspicion

The executive producer behind hit television shows such as THE KILLING and COLD CASE has been asked to rewrite Alfred Hitchcock’s 1941 film SUSPICION.

Veena Sud, who also wrote for the ABC show PUSH, NEVADA, has been approached to write the script for the re-make, which will be released through Paramount Pictures. Montecito Pictures are rumoured to be producing the project – and they are also in the stage of pre-production on the novel adaptation of ALFRED HITCHCOCK AND THE MAKING OF PSYCHO, written by author Stephen Rebello.

Hitchcock’s SUSPICION was based on Before The Fact, a 1932 novel written by Francis Iles. Released in 1941, it starred Joan Fontaine as Lina McLaidlaw, a plain-Jane who runs off to marry unpredictable, irresponsible ladies man, Johnnie Aysgarth (Cary Grant). As the plot unfolds, Lina believes that her slick, new husband is planning to kill her. The role won Fontaine a Best Actress Academy Award.

The news of this remake comes hot on the heels of Dreamworks announcing plans to remake Hitchcock’s REBECCA (1940), which also starred Fontaine as the leading lady.

Who would take on the classic characters featured in Hitchcock’s films? And who would have the guts to have a go at remaking PSYCHO (again)? We’ll have to wait and see what happens.

Considering Jazmine grew up watching CARRY ON SCREAMING, THE LION KING and JURASSIC PARK on repeat for weeks on end, it made sense for her to study film at London South Bank University. It’s also a good thing that her course requires a lot of sitting down because she’s very accident-prone. When she’s not examining her bruises, she likes pretending that she doesn’t live in Southend-On-Sea and spends hours mindlessly blogging. Favourite films include BLUE VALENTINE, ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND and TOY STORY 2.
