Here is the first official poster for that very film, A THOUSAND WORDS. Murphy reunites with director Brian Robbins, the man behind his star vehicles listed above. Here’s how it’s going to go down:
“Eddie Murphy is Jack McCall, a fast-talking literary agent, who can close any deal, any time, any way. He has set his sights on New Age guru Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis) for his own selfish purposes. But Dr. Sinja is on to him, and Jack’s life comes unglued after a magical Bodhi tree mysteriously appears in his backyard. With every word Jack speaks, a leaf falls from the tree and he realizes that when the last leaf falls, both he and the tree are toast. Words have never failed Jack McCall, but now he’s got to stop talking and conjure up some outrageous ways to communicate or he’s a goner.”
Well now, let’s see. A high-flying jerk is inflicted with a supernatural curse that reverses his greatest asset and forces him to make moral choices. So, LIAR LIAR, then? It sounds pretty darn similar, but instead of ‘constant liar having to tell the truth,’ it’s ‘motor-mouth having to choose his words wisely.’ And there will be hugging and learning along the way.
But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Murphy could still have his great comeback. He received a fair amount of praise for TOWER HEIST and could still be on the rise. And though screenwriter Steve Koren did give us JACK & JILL, he also wrote A NIGHT AT THE ROXBURY (1998) and some SEINFELD, so the guy CAN be good. And Robbins did also direct Kenan & Kel’s GOOD BURGER (1997) and wrestling movie READY TO RUMBLE which… which…
