Insidious Writer And Star Confirms Two Returnees For Sequel

Writer and star Leigh Whannell has confirmed his involvement in the sequel to last years horror hit INSIDIOUS. The co-creator of SAW will see him return as ‘Specs’ alongside Angus Sampson’s ‘Tucker’; the two paranormal investigators who aided Lin Shaye’s creepy ‘old lady’ psychic. Speaking to Dread Central, Whannell went on to say:-

I can say that yes, my character will be seen in INSIDIOUS 2. It may probably bum a lot of people out, though, to hear this news. It’s part of the reason I don’t even read the internet message boards anymore; there was this hatred that spewed out from fans saying ‘I hated those guys! They sucked! They ruined the movie!’ so there will probably be a lot of people out there who will be disappointed to hear that the Specs and Tucker characters will be coming back. (laughs)

The characters brought a bit of comic-relief to the intense spooky film about parents (Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne) struggling to deal with their comatose son, who they discover has been possessed in another otherworldly realm.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
