Die Hard 5 Casts John McClane Jr.

The fifth outing that will see New York cop John McClane, having another very bad day, is set to begin shooting soon with the new films plot involving his son and a trip the Moscow. Now we finally have confirmation of just who has grabbed one of the most in demand roles in Hollywood. After a shortlist that included BREAKING BAD’s Aaron Paul, THE HUNGER GAMES’ Liam Hemsworth and 3:10 TO YUMA’s Ben Foster; SPARTACUS: BLOOD & SAND star Jai Courtney has landed the part.

Aussie star Courtney played the heroic but tragic, Varro, friend of the lead Spartacus (played by the late Andy Whitfield) in the hit show and will soon be seen trading blows with Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher in Christopher McQuarrie’s ONE SHOT. We also have an image courtesy of 20th Century Fox of both Bruce Willis and Courtney during his winning audition.

A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD (or DIE HARD 5 if a similar name change happens to the UK title, as did the fourth film which in the US was LIVE FREE OR DIE HARD) will be directed by THE OMEN and MAX PAYNE’s John Moore. Is all hope lost? After those efforts, we can only hope not.

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
