Although the Academy Awards were last night and we know who won what, it doesn’t mean we can’t have a look at a trailer for something that was nominated…but didn’t win. TIME FREAK, directed by Andrew Bowler and produced by his wife, Gigi Causey, was one of the films nominated for the award Best Live Action Short Film. However, they didn’t win – but it doesn’t mean we should ignore them!
TIME FREAK focuses on roommates John Conor Brooke and Michael Nathanson. After Michael doesn’t return home after several days, John decides to visits Michael’s laboratory. It’s revealed that Michael had created a time machine and had spent the last few days going back to the day before (BACK TO THE FUTURE-style) to redo events he wasn’t happy with and change how he handled them – like dealing with a dry cleaner…
So far, so indie-movie. The film had its premiere at the Brooklyn International Film Festival last year after being rejected by others such as Sundance and Tribeca. However, the movie-making couple decided to take a risk and submitted it to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, who put it forward as one of its nominees. Although it didn’t win the award, I think it still looks very quirky and funny and with a budget of just $25,000, I can see why it was nominated in the first place.
