New Line’s ‘Vacation’ Reboot Has Its Directors

National Lampoon’s VACATION adventures, the Chevy Chase-led franchise, has been rumoured to be remade for a number of years. Now it appears we finally have confirmation of just who will take charge of the new feature, that was previously touted for WEDDING CRASHERS’ David Dobkin. The franchise has become one of the pinnacles of American comedy, and eventually led to a total of four features. HORRIBLE BOSSES writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein will make their directing debut with an attempt to update the accident-prone Griswald family.

Harold Ramis’ classic original, was followed up two years later with Amy Heckerling’s EUROPEAN VACATION and 1989’s CHRISTMAS VACATION, has become a firm festive favourite. 1997’s VEGAS VACATION had its moments, but did not hit the funny bone anywhere near as much as the previous three entries.

No doubt many fans will be up-in-arms with Hollywood trying to deface another beloved franchise, but nothing is ever sacred when there is money to be made. Hopefully there is at least room for Chevy Chase and Randy Quaid cameos, and of course Lindsey Buckingham’s famous theme-tune must be kept, surely!

Craig was our great north east correspondent, proving that it’s so ‘grim up north’ that losing yourself in a world of film is a foregone prerequisite. He has been studying the best (and often worst) of both classic and modern cinema at the University of Life for as long as he can remember. Craig’s favorite films include THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION, JFK, GOODFELLAS, SCARFACE, and most of John Carpenter’s early work, particularly THE THING and HALLOWEEN.
